Over at Song of the Paddle there is a useful discussion about the relative merits of the Sevyor Colorado and Stearns Back Country inflatable canoes. The Gumotex Palava (also known under the Innova brand) also gets a quick review.
The concensus seems to be that Gumotex are expensive, unless you get them second-hand. The Stearns back [...]

Gumotex inflatable canoes, such as the Gumotex Baraka and Palava are sold in the USA under the brand name Innova. They are increasingly popular in Europe (Gumotex are a Czech company) but can be a little hard to get a hold of in America.
I’ve tracked down a store that has the full range of Gumotex [...]

At A Simple Life of Luxury, there is a story of Alan testing out his Sevylor Panama for the first time. Sounds like it was a success. Lidl, where he bought it from, is a budget supoermarket in the UK, and not normally known for its outdoor gear. It is known for its bargains though.
This [...]

I’ve added a page that shows a comparison of the prices for some of the most popoular inflatable canoes. I’ve included the Sevylor Rio, Colorado and Tahiti, the Stearns Back country, Sea Eagle 330 and the Innova Vanguard. Innova seem to be sold in Europe under the Gumotex brand, and are quite a bit cheaper [...]

Life is never dull with an inflatable canoe, according to Christopher Reichert. He has been paddling with crocodiles in Zambia, in a Stearns inflatable canoe and lived to tell the tale.

In the space of 10 minutes yesterday I saw an inflatable dingy and three inflatable kayaks. I was sitting in the pub and watched three people take turns to inflate the dingy. It took a while to see what it was – canoe kayak or dingy, but once it took shape it turned out to [...]

Mal at Song of the Paddle has written an account of a trip in his Sevylor along the Wey in Surrey, England.
He comments:
“The sunshine had brought out the crowds, so soon an audience of puzzled onlookers was watching my fatigued attempts to pump up the Lilo. I have yet to achieve this feat without a [...]

Most popular inflatable canoes of 2008
vs
The Sevylor Colorado and the Stearns backcountry seem to be the most popular inflatable canoes of this season. Both seem to be well made and stable, and aimed at the same market. They are both well-suited for rivers or coasts and are ideal for beginners.
So which inflatable [...]

I thought I’d have a look at what books are available specifically about inflatable canoes and inflatable kayaks, and my brief search has intrigued me.
Cecil Kuhne has written Inflatable Kayaking: The Complete Guide, which sounds perfect for beginners like me. I am a little perturbed, however, when I see what else he has written:
Near Death [...]

This is a well-shot film showing the unpacking and use of a Stearns Backcountry inflatable canoe.
I love the lingering shots of the seat buckles. It’s all very detailed! It’s worth having a look at 1:30 in, if you have any doubts about the stability of inflatable canoes.
